There is a huge array of habitats to be found all around Kielder Water and Forest Park from ancient woodlands, marshy grasslands and even internationally important blanket bogs that make up the areas numerous Sites of Special Scientific Interest.

Of particular note, having nested annually since 2009, the Kielder Ospreys have begun to increase their population and have been known to make an appearance around Churnsike Lodge. Of course, they aren’t the only special inhabitants of the forest – Kielder is home to 60% of the nation’s native Red Squirrel population and even plays host to a herd of feral goats that roam the Border moors. But it’s not just Fauna that makes up the fascinating surroundings as Flora is in abundance as well.
